Charity

Charity is at the heart of Freemasonry.

At The Lodge Old Aberdeen No. 164, we believe that true charity extends beyond financial support, it involves giving our time, our energy, and our care to those in need. As Freemasons, we are guided by the core values of integrity, kindness, and service, and we strive to live those values through our charitable work in the local community and beyond.

What Charity Means in Freemasonry

Freemasonry has a long and proud tradition of charitable giving. It is not about recognition or reward, but about quietly making a difference in the lives of others. Every Brother is encouraged to contribute in whatever way he can, whether by donating funds, volunteering time, or offering skills and support to those who need it most.

Charity is a personal responsibility, but it is also a collective effort. Together, as a Lodge, we can achieve more and reach further.

Supporting the Local Community

Lodge Old Aberdeen No. 164 supports a wide range of charitable causes, with a particular focus on local needs within Aberdeen and the surrounding area. Some of the ways we contribute include:

  • Financial Donations: We raise funds through Lodge events, raffles, and personal contributions to support local charities, community groups, and individuals facing hardship.

  • Volunteering Time: Our members often give their time to community initiatives, local shelters, food banks, and events that support those in need.

  • Practical Support: Whether it’s assisting elderly neighbours, helping with maintenance projects, or lending a hand to local causes, we aim to be present and supportive where we are needed.

We also contribute to wider Masonic charitable efforts at a national level through recognised and regulated Masonic charities, ensuring that help reaches even further.

Making a Difference Quietly and Consistently

Our work is often done without fanfare, because Freemasonry teaches us that charity should come from the heart, not for recognition. We are proud of the difference we make, not just in large gestures, but in the quiet, consistent acts of kindness that define true charitable spirit.
